Job Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced Aerodynamics Lead with a PhD in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering and prior OEM industry experience to lead aerodynamic design and configuration development for advanced aircraft systems.
The role involves high-fidelity aerodynamic analysis, configuration optimization, and performance modeling for clean-sheet aircraft concepts. The candidate will be responsible for evaluating competing aerodynamic architectures, guiding design decisions at the system level, and ensuring performance-driven configuration selection.
This position is suited for a research-oriented engineer with strong industrial exposure who can bridge advanced aerodynamic theory with real-world aircraft development constraints.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead aerodynamic configuration development for advanced aircraft concepts
- Evaluate and compare multiple aircraft architectures using analytical and CFD-based methods
- Conduct high-fidelity CFD simulations for cruise, transition, and off-design conditions
- Perform aerodynamic optimization including lift-to-drag enhancement and induced drag reduction
- Analyze complex flow interactions, including multi-surface and propulsion-affected aerodynamics
- Develop and validate aircraft performance models (range, endurance, payload trade-offs)
- Provide aerodynamic inputs for multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO)
- Collaborate with structural and systems teams for configuration integration
- Translate research-level aerodynamic methods into practical engineering decisions
- Prepare technical documentation for design reviews and external stakeholders
- PhD in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field with focus on aerodynamics or fluid mechanics
- 5–12+ years of experience in aerospace OEMs or Tier-1 aerospace organizations
- Strong industrial experience in aircraft aerodynamic design or performance engineering
- Expert-level proficiency in CFD tools (ANSYS Fluent / STAR-CCM+ / OpenFOAM or equivalent) Strong foundation in:
- Aerodynamics and fluid mechanics
- Aircraft performance and stability fundamentals
- Turbulence modeling and flow physics
- Experience in aircraft configuration design or aerodynamic optimization programs
- Proficiency in MATLAB or Python for performance modeling and analysis
- Exposure to multidisciplinary design optimization (MDO) highly preferred
- Strong ability to transition from research concepts to practical engineering solutions
- Experience with UAVs, experimental aircraft, or advanced aerospace programs is a plus
