Develop primary and secondary aircraft structural layouts (fuselage, wing, rotor support structures, empennage, landing gear attachments).
Perform structural sizing, load path development, and weight optimization.
Conduct stress analysis and FEA for static, dynamic, and fatigue loading conditions.
Support aero-structural interaction studies and vibration analysis.
Develop and validate load cases (hover, transition, cruise, landing, emergency conditions).
Select appropriate materials (composites, aluminum, titanium, hybrid structures) based on strength, weight, durability, and cost.
Define composite laminate schedules and support process selection.
Support structural trade studies for different configurations.
Prepare structural substantiation documentation for design reviews (SRR, PDR).
Coordinate with manufacturing teams to ensure design-for-manufacturability (DFM).
Support early certification planning in alignment with FAA structural compliance requirements.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Structural Engineering.
5+ years of experience in aircraft structural design and analysis (rotorcraft experience preferred).
Strong knowledge of aircraft load development and structural sizing methods.
Proficiency in FEA tools (ANSYS, NASTRAN, Abaqus or equivalent).
Experience with composite structures and lightweight design.
Understanding of aerospace materials, fatigue, and damage tolerance principles.
Familiarity with FAA structural certification fundamentals (Part 23/Part 27/Part 29 concepts preferred).
